Much To Do With Shakespeare by Amelia Cooney

Hi! My name is Amelia Cooney and I'm playing Beatrice in our production of Much Ado About Nothing. I was so incredibly excited when we found out that this was the fall production that we would be doing. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you how seriously obsessed I am with Shakespeare. I've been performing the bard's works for about ten years now, but I fell in love with his stories when I was very young. The first live Shakespeare I can remember seeing was Midsummer Night's Dream, but, before that, I remember watching Much Ado on a VHS tape over and over and over. I have a feeling that is why it's my favorite! Two summers ago my family went on vacation to the UK and we each got to pick a city that we really wanted to visit. Well, it was no surprise when I immediately chose Stratford Upon Avon, the town where Shakespeare was born and died. While I was there, I was lucky enough to participate in a class with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It was an incredible experience and I highly recommend it to any aspiring young actors.

So, when Much Ado was announced as the fall play, I was pumped. Sadly, I know a lot of my fellow actors were less than amped for the show. It's understandable, Shakespeare is not easy! I still struggle with his words and his phrasing. But, as the show starts to come together, I can feel myself improving and I can see my peers getting excited about the show. Now, hopefully we can get the Hale students and community just as excited to come watch. I know that Shakespeare may seem boring or confusing, but I promise that this production will take you on a thrilling ride full of laughter (and maybe even tears). So please, please consider supporting Nathan Hale Theatre this November at Much Ado About Nothing! I hope to see you there!
